Weekly Debate: Are Bicep Curls Overrated? Do You Really Need Them for Big Arms?

Are bicep curls necessary for big arms?

You don't need that exercise for big arms. Arms get trained performing other exercises too. Actually, if you want bigger arms train your triceps as they are the bigger muscle on your arms.... No kidding!!!!
 
I agree with everything that has been said.
Bicep curls are an amazing way to make arms bigger since they isolate biceps and target them.
HOWEVER, there are many other ways to strengthen biceps and make arms bigger such as chin-ups and they are targeted in most pulling exercises.
And adding to @Brian Multigym 70% of your arms are actually triceps!!!
 
I did used to do them back in the day, but it was one of those every now and then things. We focused on dumbbells and cables mostly. My training partner @Weeman (sadly no longer with us) had a fair set of pipes on him and mine weren't too bad for the half arsed effort I put in, so that was proof enough for me that they weren't vital.

I just had problems actually connecting with barbell curls, unless I went lighter / higher rep.

Whatever works, works I guess!
