Best one is the one that works best for you. No two people are equal so try a range and the one you can feel in your chest is probably the one that’ll work best to hit your chest.

Another way is simply doing push ups between benches..I mention this as the OP mentioned Vince Gironda..he liked a version of this.
 
Maybe you need a new training strategy..a Tri set with Dip, push ups between benches & flys using rings. Also favoured by gironda
 
Lean forward for more chest activation, simple
Add weight to make it more difficult
Leg position makes a difference tbf
The exercise Meadows does requires more core strength and hits more lower chest
